Technology R&D for Tight Reservoirs

qWave participated in the ORLEN international tight reservoir seminar, to discuss technologies needed to develop tight reservoirs on the NCS. ORLEN is partner in the Victoria and Afrodite tight gas discoveries with significant recoverable resources. We discussed new technologies that can perform under these challenging HTHP conditions. On day two of the workshop qWave hosted a R&D workshop to demonstrate our technologies for more accurate formation stress testing. The participants were also introduced to cutting edge R&D activities ongoing in our lab at the moment, our approach to R&D, and a status of the ongoing project to develop a new version technology for stress testing in 8 ½ well sections.
“Developing tight reservoirs under high-temperature, high-pressure conditions requires technologies that can provide reliable subsurface data and reduce uncertainty. Visiting the qWave laboratory and seeing the technology firsthand gave us a real appreciation of the R&D and engineering involved in developing sophisticated downhole tools. qWave’s approach to improving formation stress measurements addresses an important technical challenge and has the potential to support safer and more efficient reservoir development.”, says Nigel Marsh, Executive Director, Exploration & Production at ORLEN S.A. and Subsurface Director at ORLEN Upstream Norway.
“We learnt that independent of which method to develop tight reservoirs, such as hydraulic fracturing, there will be a need to understand the stress regimes, directions, and the minimal horizontal stress. This is exactly what the qWave technology will deliver, and R&D projects are now in progress with Equinor and DNO to find the best solutions, R&D projects that are only possible if supported by E&P operating companies, and the Norwegian Research Council”, says Jan Ove Nesvik, CEO at qWave.
